“For me there are no borders”, says Johs Kalvemo, the journalists in NRK Sami Radio that once by accident swam naked over the border to Russia in the Pasvik River.

“I don’t know what would have happened if I was caught naked on the Russian side…”

Johs Kalvemo is one of the most well know journalists that have been covering daily life and events in the Barents Region since long before the official cooperation was established 20 years ago. “I have more in common with my colleagues in the Barents region, than with my colleagues in Oslo,” argues Johs.

Sápmi is one region covering four countries. The same goes with the Barents Region.

This film- and photo portrait of Johs Kalvemo is made for BarentsObserver by Arne Egil Tønset and Ingun A. Mæhlum. By next spring, their book with portraits of people from all over the Barents Region will be published.
