According to General Director of Liinakhamari Port Management Company Sergey Kudrintsky, negotiations with potential investors are under way. The port will have an annual capacity of 15 million tons of oil and 4 million tons of fertilizer, said at a forum on development of transport infrastructure in the Russian Arctic.
The port of Liinakhamari in the outlet of the Pechenga fjord has lain more or less idle since the Coast Guard moved its vessels out of the area a few years back. The fjord is used for salmon farming.
The project includes an offshore complex for transshipment of oil. This will be a 320 000 tons storage tanker anchored in the bay outside the port, Portnews reports.
According to Kudrintsky the port will have a universal cargo complex for transshipment of 4 million tons of fertilizer. The port will have two quays with a total length of 575 meters and be capable of handling vessels up to 175 000 tons. Fertilizer is produced in Apatit on the Kola Peninsula and can be transported to Pechenga by railroad.
