Furniture giant intends to build a mall in Umeå.


There is an IKEA wave in the Barents Region this autumn. Last week, the Swedish furniture chain announced the construction of a new mall in Tromsø in northern Norway. This week’s announcement is to build a 32.000 – 36.000 square metre mall in Umeå in northern Sweden.

The furniture mall in Umeå will open the doors earliest in 2013, reports Västerbotten Folkblad.

The first IKEA mall in the Barents Region opened in Haparanda in 2006 and soon got customers driving in from Finnish Lapland, Troms and Finnmark counties in Norway, as well as Murmansk and Karelia in northwest Russia.
