The slogan for this years festival is Ticking Barents.

The Race for the Arctic has begun, read newspaper headings while scientists warn about reaching the point of no return; irreversible human made climate changes. Our slogan, TICKING BARENTS, focuses on the international hunting for raw resources and the new transportation routes in the Arctic. When the world is ticking with riots and mass protests, maybe the slogan TICKING BARENTS sounds ironic? Or is this a revolution on ice?

The festival plays out alternative social structures and local formats of communal self-organization: A revolution in our mind, a revolution as a community-building process. What is ticking, one might ask. The Arctic is hotter than ever and definitely ticking.

The Barents Spektakel is organized by the company of art curators and producers, Pikene på Broen, which is based in Kirkenes.
