A consortium of the French company Technip and the Japanese JGC will lead the way in the construction of the Arctic LNG plant with a capacity of 16,5 million tons.

The project starts immediately, press releases from the companies confirm.

Included in the contract is the engineering, procurement, supply, construction and commissioning of of the facility. It is Technip’s operating center in Paris, which will execute the project, the company informs.

The LNG plant will be built based on the resources of the South Tambey gas condensate project, a field which holds about 1,25 trillion cubic meters of gas.

A key component of the project is also the development of the Sabetta port. When completed, reportedly in 2016, the port will be able to handle specially designed Arctic LNG carriers shipping liquefied gas from the field to European, South American and Asian markets.

The Yamal LNG project is developed by the JSC Yamal LNG, a joint venture of Novatek (80%) and Total (20%), and in close cooperation with the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport and the Rosmorport state enterprise. The Russian government is reportedly investing 47.2 billion RUB (€1.15 billion) in the port and adjacent infrastructure, while private investments in the infrastructure facilities amount to 25.9 billion RUB (€640 million).
