From before, French Total holds a 20 percent share in the project for liquefied natural gas shipments from Yamal, a deal that was signed in March this year. The acquisition received the necessary approvals from the Russian Federation’s Strategic Investment Committee and Federal Anti-Monopoly Service in July and August 2011 allowing the two companies to close the deal, the company’s web-portal reads.
Novatek’s CEO Leonid Mikhelson told reporters that new partners could join the project by the end of 2011. According to Prime-Tass possible partners could be companies from Qatar, India or Japan.
The Yamal LNG project is said to be launched in 2016 and reach a production capacity of 15 million tonnes in 2018.
