Speaking to a fully packed hall of politicians, business people and energy experts, the leader of the state-owned oil company – the biggest in the country – said there are an estimated six trillion cubic meters of gas in the disputed Norwegian-Russian zone. He signaled a strong desire for a Russian-Norwegian settlement of the unsolved issue. Russia and Norway have negotiated almost 40 years over the delineation of the zone. While Russia wants the zone to be delineated in line with a sector principle, Norway wants the border to follow a median line. -We are ready to engage in the Arctic, Bogdanchikov stressed, adding that his company has a list of 30 offshore fields in the area which it hopes to get the licenses to.
