Murmansk Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko recently addressed the Border Agency with a number of proposals on facilitated border crossing, Murman.ru reports. The proposals were made in connection with the elaboration of a new federal programme on state borders for the period 2011-2016.
In its response to the governor, the Border Agency informs that border crossing will be facilitated both at sea, airport and at one of the land border stations by 2013.
The Borisoglebsk station will be the only of the region’s three international border crossing points, which will get the modernization. Among the upgrades will be better equipment on information control for the customs officials and border guard officials, as well as improved veterinary services, among them facilities for vegetable plant quarantine.
The Russian-Norwegian border is 196 km long. It has one border-crossing - the Borisoglebsk-Storskog stations. In 2008, a total of 104,000 people crossed the border, statistics from the NorwegianBorder Commissioner reads
