NOFI, a Tromsø based manufacturer of maritime equipment, has sold booms and expertise worth 10 million NOK to BP, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation reports. The booms will shortly be sent to the Gulf of Mexico, where an ecological disaster is threatening the area after the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig sank on April 22.
NOFI will also send experts to the area that will assist in operation of the equipment and training of personnel.
- These booms are the most effective on the market when it comes to gather and concentrate oil during high speed towing or in waters with high currents, NOFI manager Torgrim Rørtveit says.
