Mayor did not threaten editor

Sergey Subbotin

Investigations show that the Mayor of Murmansk Sergey Subbotin did not threaten the editor of the Murmansk newspaper Nataliya Chervyakova, a Murmansk TV-channel reports.

Location

As barentsObserver reported, Nataliya Chervyakova earlier this month accused Subbotin of censorship and threats when the paper planned to print a story that was critical towards local authorities. Subbotin answered by calling Chervyakova a liar and accused her of insults.

The public prosecution office’s investigation committee has studied audio recordings from the mayor’s office of the meeting where Subbotin allegedly threatened Chervyakova, TV21.ru reports. Nothing in the recordings indicates that the editor was threatened by the mayor.

Investigations on the case continue, the TV-channel reports.
