The U.S. National Academy of Sciences last Wednesday recommended the release of the material in order to help scientists study the impact of climate change. Just hours later, the Interior Ministry made the images public, Reuters reports. About 700 images show swatches of sea ice from six sites around the Arctic Ocean. There are also 500 images of 22 sites in the United States. The images have far better resolution than the photos until now available.
