Gazprom Neft eyes production in Yamal Peninsula

Gazprom’s oil unit, Gazprom Neft, is likely to take over the license to the Novoportskoe oil and condensate field in Yamal, Gazprom deputy head Aleksandr Ananenkov confirmed this week.

The development of the Novoportskoe field was started in the 1980s by but then frozen. Now, the development of the field might be restarted by Gazprom subsidiary Gazprom Neft.

In a meeting in Moscow this week, Gazprom’s deputy CEO Aleksandr Ananenkov confirmed that Gazprom Neft might take over the license to the far northern field, a company press release reads.

The gas-rich Yamal Peninsula is top priority for Gazprom. However, as reported recently by BarentsObserver, the company still in mid-June decided to postpone the launch of the biggest gas field in the region, the Bovanenkovo field, from 2011 to 2012 because of the current money crisis.
