Energy consumption down 5,8 percent in May

Energy consumption in Finland was down 5,8 percent in May compared with figures for the same month in 2008, Statistics Finland informs

The consumption of wood-based fuels diminished by 15 percent, the use of peat by 17 percent and that of natural gas by 7 percent, a press release from the statistical service reads. It is the steep drop in industrial output which is behind the decline in energy consumption. Finland produces major amounts of nuclear energy and is a significant importer of oil and gas from neighbouring Russia.
