“Sedov” has put out to sea

Sedov

The barque “Sedov”, the world’s largest traditional sailing ship in operation, has set sail again after repairs and winter storage.

Location

The training ship “Sedov” has started sailing in the Baltic Sea after having being repaired in Kaliningrad. On board are 100 students from maritime academies, web site Promurman.ru writes. The first port of call is Warnemunde in Germany.

The 4-masted steel barque is owned by the Murmansk State Technical University and gives hundreds of young future navigating officers, ship engineers and radio operators training every year.

According to the university’s web site, “Sedov” holds the official world speed record for this class of ships – in 1987 the ship made 12.6 knots in the Pacific Ocean.
