222,000 without jobs in Finland

Unemployment in Finland in March reached 8,3 percent which is 1,6 percentage points higher than in March 2008.

According to figures from Statistics Finland, about 42,000 more people have been registered in the lists of unemployed over the last year, Yle News reports. Men make up three-quarters of the newly unemployed. The unemployment rate in the age group 15-24 is 21,6 percent, which is up 4,6 percentage points compared with March 2008, the Finnish broadcaster writes.
