Another stop for StatoilHydro at Melkøya

StatoilHydro yesterday closed the LNG plant at Melkøya, Finnmark County, for two weeks. The plant has been beset by teething troubles since the start-up in late 2007 and is currently running its production at reduced capacity. StatoilHydro still claims that “LNG production at Melkøya has reached a high level”.

Location

The Melkøya plant has experienced problems with sea water heat exchangers. Two of these were replaced last autumn, and four others will be replaced during a two month stop from mid-August.

StatoilHydro had planned to make one billion NOK on gas sale from the Snøhvit field every month, E24.no reports. Every week a fully loaded tanker should leave Melkøya. Now it looks like the plant will not be at full production until after the reconstruction starting in August.
