Border-crossing dogs have been an increasing problem this winter, according to the local newspaper Finnmarken. The border guards have counted 28 homeless dogs on the Norwegian side of the border lately.
The border between Norway and Russia is mainly the Pasvik river, and in wintertime the river is frozen so it’s easy for the dogs to run over.
- We don’t know if the dogs are aggressive or maybe carrying diseases, says border commissioner Bjørn Løkås.
The licence-to-kill was approved by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
