The Russian Accounts Chamber concludes that the regional administration of former Murmansk governor Yury Yevdokimov inefficiently spent federal funds. It will be up to regional authorities whether to charge Yevdokimov or not, the Accounts Chamber maintains.

Leader of the Accounts Chamber Sergey Stepashin last Friday assessed the results of the recent comprehensive inspection of Murmansk Oblast. As previously reported by BarentsObserver, the inspection revealed 1.5 billion RUB of regional misspending. That included 199 million RUB of federal money, Murman.ru reports.

The inspection also revealed that significant sums of federal money had been inefficiently spent by the administration of Mr. Yevdokimov, the Accounts Chamber claims. Of the 13 billion RUB of federal transfers in 2008, as much as 894, million remained not spent by 1 January 2009, the inspectors say.

According to MBnews.ru, Deputy Governor Sergey Smityushenko was present in the Accounts Chamber meeting. He was told that it will be up to new governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko and his crew to decide whether to hand the case over to law enforcement authorities or not.

If so happens, that could result in charges being raised against the former long-serving governor.

The Accounts Chamber inspection of Murmansk Oblast was started in early March this year on the request on the United Russia party’s powerful faction in the State Duma. That request came after Yevdokimov had with strong words criticized the party for using dirty tricks in the city mayor election campaign.
