Tour de Barents was going to gather the world’s best cross country skiers to compete over five races in three of the Barents countries. The event was going to be held in the beginning of April this spring, after the end of the World Cup.
However, the organizing committee of the event now confirms that the Russian side has been unable to follow up its financial commitments in the project.
- It is obvious that the flexible and professional organization of a large ski event like this requires the fulfillment of financial commitments from each part. It is not possible to count on uncertain organization factors, says Svein Tore Dørmænen from the Tour de Barents organization in a press release.
The Tour de Barents Games Organization Committee maintains that the event will be postponed with one year, to the spring of 2010. However, it remains an open question whether the event now ever will be organised.
