Last Friday, on the Day of Russian Journalism, Murmansk Oblast governor Yury Yevdokimov held his traditional yearly press conference for 300 regional journalists in Murmansk. The main theme for Mr. Yevdokimov’s speech was the financial difficulties the region will be facing in 2009.
- I have told the Regional Government that in the first quarter of the new year, we have to restrain from spending excessively, conducting tenders or purchasing new equipment, Yevdokimov said, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda. We will see how we get along in this period, and then make further decisions, he added.
- 2009 will be very difficult when it comes to financial results, Regional Minister of Finances Yevgeniya Mironenko said at the press conference. Revenue are expected to drop 2,5-3 times, she added
- Because the drop in production will be deeper than we expected, it will necessary to make corrections in regional budgets, said First Deputy Regional Minister for Economic Development in Murmansk Oblast, Sergey Semyonov, B-port reports.
- Until November, production rates were increasing, but then our main enterprises started to notice the consequences of the crisis. Production of iron ore and apatite concentrate substituted less than half of the amount of the same period in 2007, Semyonov said, and added that the overall results for 2008 will be lower than in 2007.
