Gazprom army entitled to carry firearms

The Russian Government has authorized the state-controlled companies Gazprom and Transneft to arm their safeguard services with firearms, handcuffs and batons.

The law permitting the establishment of cooperate armies came to force one and a half year ago, but only this week a list over weapons and other equipment the corporate armies can be provided with was published on The Government’s web pages.

According to the document, the corporate armies can be equipped with police gear like pistols, revolvers, tuneless weapons, gas pistols, stun guns, handcuffs, batons and even patrol dogs. The document emphasizes that the weapons have to be of Russian origin.

The law states that the companies have to present a list over objects guarded by armed personnel and persons entitled to keep, carry and use weapons.

The main task of the new oil military will be to protect production facilities and transport infrastructure, Russian web site Newsru reports.
