The Territorial Generating Company No 1 (TGK-1) — one of the biggest electrical power generators in Northwest Russia – in 2009 intends to spend 40 billion RUB on investments, the company’s CEO Boris Vainzikher yesterday told journalists, the Moscow Times reports.
The investments come despite the current harder economic times in Russia and the rapidly dropping power consumption. As BarentsObserver reported yesterday, Russian power consumption the last week dropped 9,7 percent.
The TGK-1 has generating units in Murmansk Oblast, the Republic of Karelia and Leningrad Oblast. The company is owned by Gazprom (28,66%) and its controlled Russian Energy Projects (17,65%), Fortum (25,66%) and Norilsk Nickel (5,60%).
