A few weeks ago head of Ministry of Internal Affair’s Department for Traffic Safety, lieutenant general Viktor Kiryanov, gave an interview to ITAR TASS, where he characterized the situation as difficult.
- In the period January-October more than 180 000 traffic accidents have taken place. 24 200 persons were killed and 222 300 injured. The figures are terrible, especially when you consider that most of the victims are people in active working age from 20 to 40 years and that these losses are irretrievable for the country, Mr. Kiryanov said.
Statistics show that approximately 80 percent of all traffic accidents are caused by the driver.
