The renewable energy forum initiated by the Bellona Foundation and Bellona Murmansk takes place in Murmansk on 21-22 October 2008.
The issue of renewable energy in the region is of high interest, both from economic and ecological point of view.
The Murmansk Ministry of Industry, Transport and Energy of Murmansk Oblast has requested the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Apatity) to work out a regional target programme on ‘The Development of alternative renewable energy sources for 2009-2015’. The document will be presented in the end of this year.
– The most promising regions for the windmill parks in the Kola Peninsula are in the areas of the Rybachiy, Teriberskaya and Serebryanskaya Hydro Power plants, the Polyarny town area, the Khibiny mountains and Monchegorsk, – reported Valeriy Minin, the representative of the Kola Scientific Center.
– Wind energy is highly promising for the Murmansk Oblast. The wind-driven power plants should be built close to consumption centre. In this sense, Teriberka is a unique opportunity to have windmill park close to the consumption centre – the projected LNG-plant. It would be good if the research on the issue was made, – stressed Mr.Minin.
As BarentsObserver reported earlier this week, however, a representative of the Shtokman Development Company maintains that wind power is not an issue for the Shtokman LNG plant
