Corruption and fraud on Melkøya

Melkøya (Statoilhydro.com)

This week two men have to meet in court, accused of serious corruption and fraud in connection with work at the LNG-plant at Melkøya in northern Norway.

Location

A trip to Rio de Janeiro with costs at 7500 EUR, football holiday to UK with costs at 6300 EUR, improvements at a private home with costs at 9000 EUR. That is some of the charges the two men will have to answer for when the prosecution starts at Hammerfest Property Court. The trips and private home improvements were given to Statoil’s purchasing agent as bribes by a seller in the firm Løvold AS in Hammerfest.

The local business association for the Hammerfest area, Petro Arctic, says to NRK that such bribes are very rare among local enterprises. However, it is very important that all local businesses state clearly that such actions will not be accepted by anyone.
