Caucasians convicted in Kondopoga case

Three men of Caucasian origin were yesterday found guilty in having been involved in the killing of two locals in Kondopoga, Republic of Karelia, in late August 2006. The killings, which followed a fight in the local restaurant „Chaika“, were the start of massive public disorder in the Karelian town.

Location

Of the men, Mr. Islam Magumadov was found guilty in the murder of the the two locals, Mr. Grigorii Slezov and Sergey Usin. Two other men, Mr. Bakanaev and Mr. Edilsultanov, were found guilty in having contributed to the murders. Another three men were convicted for particpation in the „Chaika“ fight. The convicted are critical to the verdict, Rosbaltnord.ru reports. Mr. Bakanaev says the case is fabricated and that his only fault is that he is a Chechen. The verdict marks the end of a long-dragged case against the people central in the in the 2006 incident. From before, several locals have been convicted for the acts of holiganism which followed the killings in the „Chaika“ restaurant.
