Arkhangelsk might see merging of universities

Arkhangelsk universities

The three universities in Arkhangelsk might merge into one big Northern University. The first working group meeting on the issues was held this week.

Location

The first meeting in the working group on the creation of the new bigger university named after Mikhail Lomonosov took place on June 11 in the Arkhangelsk regional administration. Both member of Russia’s Public Chamber Viacheslav Glazachev and State Duma deputy Arthur Chilingarov were present in the meeting. As the press-service of the Arkhangelsk regional administration reports, the creation of a federal university in Arkhangelsk is still a project, and the discussion was centered mainly around the ways to secure the necessary support for the project Mr. Glazychev promised to use all his connections in the Public Chamber. He also said that he is ready to be a driving force in the process. Governor Mikhalchuk expressed readiness to cooperate with the federal Ministry of Education, the body directly responsible for creation of such federal universities. The Russian government has signalled that it plans to create 12-20 big federal universities in the country.
