Location

In a presentation in the Norwegian border town of Kirkenes today, company owner Felix Tschudi said that he is in close contact with Kolskaya GMK, a regional subsidiary of metallurgy giant Norilsk Nickel, over possible joint projects. Among the projects are joint training programmes as well as joint infrastructure initiatives, Mr. Tschudi said. In the same seminar, Kolskaya GMK director Yevgenii Potapov responded that he is confident that the cooperation will bring good results

The Tschudi Shipping Company in 2006 bought the Syd-Varanger mines located along the border to Russia. The company has since expressed major interest in attracting workers and experts from mining projects on the Russian side of the border.

The company has about 600,000 cubic meters of silos in the mountains around Kirkenes, the storage capacity of  which is up to 1 million tons of concentrated iron ore. Tschudi believes Norilsk Nickel will benefit from shipping its export ore via Kirkenes.
