Per Stig Moller, the Danish foreign minister, and Hans Enoksen, Greenland’s premier, will meet Jonas Gahr Støre and Sergei Lavrov, the Norwegian and Russian foreign ministers, John Negroponte, the US deputy secretary of state, and Gary Lunn, Canada’s natural resources minister, for a two-day conference in the town of Ilulissat, the Telegraph reports.
-We do welcome this initiative, it’s a very timely event,’ Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, Bloomberg reports. -It’s particular important that the five Arctic countries signal to the rest of the world that they want to cooperate, the minister added.
The 2-day meeting between the ministers takes place at Greenland, the vast northern island which remains a part of Denmark, and among the areas where climate change is felt the strongest.
