Museum director Sergey Rubtsov says to Interfax that Mr. Tseretelis plans are not even an issue at Solovki. He is confident that the plans will not be materialized. -The museum is protected by Unesco, which hardly will approve the plans, Mr. Rubtsov says. Also Russian human rights activists are sceptical towards the plans. -Personally, I am very sceptical towards some of the giantomania of Zurab Tsreteli, head of the Memorial movement, Arsenii Roginskii says. It seems to me that giantomania and the Solvki are incompatible, he adds. The Solovki islands is the site for one of the Russian Orthodox Church most noted monastries. The islands are also known for its cruel Stalin-era work camps.
