The Russian Federal Industry Agency (Rosprom) has been assigned with the elaboration of a rescue plan for the Sevmash plant in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast. The new plan could help Russia’s biggest and most important mechanical plant in the north overcome its current crisis.

Location

The problems of huge shipyard and mechanical plant were on the agenda in a recent government session, Sevmash reports in a press release.

In the meeting, Sevmash Director General Nikolai Kalistratov said that the Russian state over the last 20 years has not made any investments to the development of plant’s industrial capacities, at the same as the company has been forced into new challenging projects.

The company problems can be illustrated by the recent withdrawal from a major contract by Norwegian shipping company Odfjell, following what the Norwegian company called lack of professionalism. Sevmash has also recently experienced major problems with the implementation of several contracts with the Indian Navy.

Among the main tasks for the elaborators of the technical and economic development plan will be improved efficiency, better working performance, construction of residential facilities for workers coming to Severodvinsk, modernization of capacities for a better implementation of commission of the Ministry of Defence, increased salaries, the Sevmash website reports.
