“The offer was unexpected for me. It was made in a spontaneous way, without preliminary consultations, in front of cameras and journalists. I would call it a challenge, not an official offer”, - said leader of Murmansk Communists on a press conference.

BarentsObserver reported last week that Murmansk Governor offered one of key figures in a fishery sector Gennady Stepakhno a position as Deputy Governor responsible for the region’s agriculture sector.

The leader of opposition was supposed to change Pavel Bogushevich on this position, who has written a notice of resignation due to health issues.

It took Stepakhno four days to consult with regional fishermen, a leader of Russian communist party Mr Zuganov, and make a decision to stay in opposition. He preferred to keep heading the Committee on nature use and fisheries in Murmansk regional Duma.

The Communist believes there is no perspective for constructive work in Kovtun’s team, because the team doesn’t exist, and due to the Governor’s non-democratic way of work and communication, Nord-news reported.

Marina Kovtun is disappointed with his decision and ideological reason for it, b-port informs.

“This job is a sharp end. It’s a complicated position, where he could make real action to help solving fishermen’s problmes. But he preferes to keep to the home front. It’s not the time for political distractions. It is important to take responsobility and real actions, it’s more difficult that just critisizing and making protests”, she said.

The 62 years old opposition leader named several younger experts, who can professionally fit the rejected position. He believes the ex-director of Murmansk Trawl Fleet Nikolay Karlin, and director of Murmansk fishing port Vladimir Sokolov can be relevant for this job.
