- Participation in the Barents cooperation makes it possible to strengthen direct contacts between regions, both on an economic and on human level, Gayzer says to Regions.ru.
This week the Barents Regional Council and the Barents Regional Committee are gathered in Syktyvkar in the Republic of Komi.
As examples of international Barents projects that have been fruitful for Komi, Gayzer mentions the international support for the Belkomur project as part of the Barents Link transport corridor.
Belkomur is a huge project which includes a railroad connecting Arkhangelsk with Komi and Perm. This will shorten the way between Siberia and the White Sea ports by 800 kilometers and open new efficient ways for cargo flows from the Urals and Siberian industrial zones to Europe.

One other field of activity that Vyacheslav Gayzer considers to be very relevant for Komi in the future is development of energy-saving technologies.
