Mining

An indigenous peoples’ compensation from the mining industry in northern Norway could result in conflicts between the Sami people and the other population in the area, a member of the Sami Parliament says.

The Norwegian Sami Parliament supports the Russian Sami population’s bid for the establishment of their own legislative assembly in the Kola Peninsula.

75 percent of the voters in this Tuesday’s referendum said Greenland’s should be independent from Denmark. With its independence, Greenland becomes a sovereign key player in international Arctic issues.
