Russia to hold annual Arctic Forums

Arkhangelsk is suggested to host the next year’s Arctic Forum.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday that Arctic Forums will be hold annually. The Prime Minister said to RIA Novosti that Russia wants to continue an open discussion of key Arctic problems, including nature protection and climate changes.

This September, the first Arctic Forum, entitled “The Arctic: Territory of Dialouge” was held in Moscow with participants from the main actors in Arctic and sub-arctic issues. Head of the Norwegian Barents Secretariat, Rune Rafaelsen, was among the participants.

Russia’s well-known polar explorer Arthur Chilingarov is the one that propose to hold next year’s Arctic Forum in Arkhangelsk.
