The German leader during her visit to the Baltic country did not oppose the abolishment of visa regulations between Russia and the EU, but stressed that more time is needed.
I do not consider this to be unrealistic, however we need to go a long way before we get there, Merkel said, a press release from her office reads.
During the visit, Merkel also confirmed that she is positive towards including Kaliningrad Oblast in special cross-border travelling regulation. Both Poland and Russia want all of Kaliningrad to be included in the visa-free deal, while Lituania reportedly is reluctant to include the whole region, Prime-Tass reports.
The Schengen agreement opens up for visa-free travel regimes in 30-50 km zones along the border. As reported by BarentsObserver, such agreements are under negotiations also between Russia and Norway.
