Another disappointment in the Norwegian Sea

Oil company Shell confirms that its exploration drilling at the Dalsnuten prospect in the Norwegian Sea proved unsuccessful.

Location

The Norwegian oil industry had high hopes for the Dalsnuten field in the Norwegian Sea. The field was considered among the most promising off the coast of northern Norway and a big finding was believed to raise the importance of the whole region.

Now, Shell confirmes that the well was dry. The negative result is another setback for the oil industry in northern Norway. Earlier this year, it became clear that also the field Gro did not contain oil and gas of significance.

-We now have to re-evaluate the Vøring-area and analyse all collected information, Shell’s Head of Information Terje Jonassen told Offshore.no.

Shell now hopes that the authorities will open new areas for exploration. –The result shows the importance of opening new areas, Jonassen underlines. He maintains that his company is confident that the future of the oil and gas industry is in new areas, and not in the areas previously opened for exploration by the Norwegian authorities.
