Gazprom production

The Russian government has granted energy giant Gazprom new exploration areas in the Tazov Bay, a part of the Kara Sea.

Location

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on 24 September signed a decree according to which Gazprom will get the right to explore the Chuguryakhinskoe field in the Tazov Bay, RBK.ru reports. The field is located near several other of Gazprom’s fields in the area.

The decree gives Gazprom the right both to exploration and production, Oilru.com reports.

Gazprom is currently in the process of investing huge sums in the development of the nearby Yamal Peninsula. Both a pipeline and a railway line is being built to the Bovanekovo field, one of the biggest in the gas-rich peninsula.

The Tazov Bay runs into the Ob Bay and the Kara Sea. The bay is about 330 km long. The rivers Taz and Pur end up in the bay.
