Norilsk Nickel to build Arctic tanker

Russian mining and metallurgy major Norilsk Nickel has signed a contract with the German Nordic Yards on the construction of an Arctic-class tanker.

Location

The vessel is expected to be built and delivered by the end of September 2011. A total of 100 million EUR will be invested in the project, a press release from the Russian company reads.

The tanker will supply fuel and lubricants to Dudinka and take gas condensate from Pelyatkinsky gas field (Taimyr) to western European buyers.

As BarentsObserver has reported, Norilsk Nickel has over the several last years worked hard to develop its own independent logistical chains in the High North.
