High North on Stoltenberg-Obama agenda

The situation in the High North was included in today’s meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

Mr. Stoltenberg got 35 minutes of bilateral talks with Barack Obama ahead of the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony.

Ahead of the meeting, Stoltenberg said to newspaper Aftenposten that bilateral relations between the countries, including the High North, energy and the Middle East, would be on the agenda. At the press conference following the meeting, Mr. Stoltenberg highlighted the good relations between the countries.

Norway and the United States are close allies. We are partners in NATO and we enjoy a close long-standing relationship, he stressed.

We cooperate in the High North and we work closely together in a number of different global issues”, Prime Minister Stoltenberg added.

Climate change was issue number one in the meeting. “This is the most important issue of our time”, Stoltenberg underlined.
