Dmitriyenko in a press release underlines that the deal signed by Russian President Medvedev and Norwegian PM Jens Stoltenberg last week is based on pragmatic agreement, which meets the interests of both parts.

He stresses that Russia has not any concessions on the issue.

The deal is the result of the new understanding and the new relations between Russia and Norway, all based on the principles of mutual trust and respect, the governor says.

He also expresses confidence that the agreement will open new opportunities for joint work in the development of the Arctic shelf. “Thanks to this document we will be able to lean on existing international law. It [the document] sufficiently clearly lays down the rules which must be observed by both parts”, the governor adds.
