As part of the country’s reorganization of its border guard on the border to Russia, Norway has established a new company that will be in charge of the southern parts of the border strip.

Location

The Norwegian Border Guard Service is in the process of investing in a more effective system for surveillance and control of the border. The six existing border stations along the 196 kilometers long border to Russia will be replaced by two larger stations.

One station will be built at Svanvik in the southern parts of the border strip, while the other will be located close to the Storskog border crossing point. Each of the new stations will cost €12.8 million.

Company Pasvik (Pasvikkompaniet) was officially established on August 1 and will establish headquarters in the new Svanvik station in January, if construction goes as planned. The three old stations at Gjøkåsen, Skogfoss and Svanvik will then be closed and its officers transferred to Company Pasvik, according to Sør-Varanger Avis (paywall).
