He earns most in the Russian Navy

Commander of the Northern Fleet Admiral Vladimir Korolyov has the highest salary of all of Russia’s fleet commanders. He even makes more than the Commander-in-chief of the Navy and the Minister of Defense.

According to personal income details of employees of the Ministry of Defense published on the ministry’s website, Commander of the Northern Fleet Admiral Vladimir Korolyov had an income of 11 million rubles (€184,038) in 2014, news website Flot.com writes.

Commander-in Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Viktor Chirkov earned less than Korolyov, with an income of 9.18 million rubles (€153,588).

Russia’s Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu is said to have had an income of 7.5 million rubles (€125.480) in 2014.

Admiral Korolyov made twice as much as the second most earning commander – Commander of the Black Sea Fleet Admiral Aleksander Vitko, who had an income of 5.9 million rubles (€98,711).

Commander of the Pacific Fleet Vice Admiral Sergey Avakyants had an income of 4.77 million rubles (€79,805), Commander of the Baltic Fleet had an income of 3.6 million rubles (€60,230), and then Commander of the Caspian Flotilla Commander Ildar Akhmerov made 2.25 million rubles (€37,644), Flot.com writes.

The Northern Fleet is considered to be the most powerful of all of Russia’s fleets. It includes about two-thirds of the Russian Navy’s nuclear-powered ships, and it gets a lion’s share of all new vessels, submarines and other equipment that is produced.

On December 1st 2014 Russia established a new Arctic Joint Strategic Command on basis of the Northern Fleet. The Arctic Strategic Command area of responsibility includes Russian territories in the Arctic and its aim is to protect Russian interests in the region.

The Northern Fleet’s ground forces include the 61st Naval Infantry Brigade in Sputnik on the Kola peninsula, and two “Arctic” rifle brigades – the 200. Independent Motor Rifle Brigade, located in Pechenga close to the border to Norway, and the 80. Independent Motor Rifle Brigade in Alakurtti close to the border to Finland.
