Russia worse on press freedom

This year’s Freedom of the Press Index from Reporters without Borders ranks Russia number 153 of 170 countries.

Location

The failure to punish those responsible for murdering journalists, and the still glaring lack of diversity in the media, especially the broadcast media, weighed heavily in the evaluation of press freedom in Russia”, a press release from the media freedom watchdog reads.

Russia is the only of the G8 countries which does worse in the ranking compared with last year (down 12 places). In the ranking, Russia is for the first time lower than Belarus.
