Andrej Zvyagintsev’s Elena (2011) was awarded with the Aurora prize, which is given to the best film in the competition program at TIFF, which was arranged last week. Elena also won the Fipresci international film critic award, the festival’s web site reads.

The Hollywood Reporter calls the film “an unmistakable example of high-end, slow-paced art cinema, that stands out by harking back to classic noir thrillers, especially those in which inconvenient, wealthy husbands stand in the way of their wives’ financial and/or romantic imperatives”.

Tromsø International Film Festival (TIFF) has had an incredible growth since it first commenced in 1991 and is now the largest film festival in Norway. The total of admissions in 1991 was 5 200 - in 2011 it was 52 501.

Tromsø International Film Festival is set in the dark polar nights, which give’s TIFF the unique possibility to screen films outdoor. The outdoor cinema is located at the main square in the heart of Tromsø. The program includes a selection of shorts and documentaries from the Films from the North program, along with special screenings and various other events.
