The capital of the Yamalo-Nenets region Salekhard becomes the center of attention for Russian and foreign scientists, politicians and journalists working on questions related to the Arctic next month. More than 300 of them are expected to the Third International Arctic Forum on October 22-23 to discuss scenarios of climate change in the Arctic and try to predict their impact on the ecosystem of the region, RIA Novosti reports.
The participants will discuss environmental safety and health of people living in the Arctic, the impact of industrial development on the lives of indigenous peoples, as well as elimination of accumulated environmental damage, prevention and liquidation of emergency situations.
The series of conferences called “Artic - a territory of dialogue” are organized by the Russian Geographical Society. The two previous forums were arranged in Moscow in 2010 and in Arkhangelsk in 2011.
