Murmansk – fish capital of Russia

Murmansk is still the most important town in Russia when it comes to fisheries.

Location

In 2013 companies in the Murmansk region caught 697.300 tons of marine bio resources, which is 125.000 tons more than in the previous year. The region is also leading when it comes to amount of shipped products and works and services to the fisheries sector.

Murmansk Fisheries Harbour shipped 260.000 tons of seafood products last year, 113% of the previous years’ turnover. Nearly 20% or 160.000 tons of all the fish produced by companies in Murmansk was caught outside Africa, Fishnews writes.

The total catch of fish in Russia last year was 4.134.800 tons. This means that companies in Murmansk contributed with nearly one-sixth of the whole nation’s catch.
