Torch-bearers bring Olympic flame through Barents

Countdown to Sochi 2014 Olympic winter games has started. Torch-bearers will bring the flame through the entire Russian part of the Barents Region in October and November.

Location

Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Syktyvkar and Naryan-Mar. All regional Capitals in Barents Russia is on the list of cities awaiting the Sochi 2014 Olympic torch.

The flame will come to Murmansk on October 30 from Kaliningrad. In Murmansk, torch-bearers will bring the flame through the city in a 14 kilometer relay. Before that, the flame has also been in Petrozavodsk, the Capital of Karelia. 

From Murmansk, the flame goes to Arkhangelsk, before heading on to Syktyvkar in the Komi Republic. Thereafter follows the tundra in Arctic Russia with Naryan-Mar in Nenets as the first place before it continues eastwards throughout Siberia towards Vladivostok.

The torch will eventually be winding down to the Black Sea resort of Sochi for the Opening Ceremony on February 7, 2014. See the map of the route here.

Last time the Olympic flame visited the Barents Region was back in 1994 when a relay took place throughout northern Norway before ending up at the Lillehammer Olympic winter games.
