In August, the terminal located in the Nenets village of Varandey handled 277,800 tons of export oil, Portnews.ru reports.
The terminal both in 2009 and 2010 exported about 7.5 million tons of oil. The top capacity of the terminal, which was opened in mid-2008, is about 12 million tons.
The fixed offshore ice resistant oil export terminal (FOIROT) comprises: onshore tank farm with the total rated capacity of 325,000 cbm; fixed offshore ice resistant oil terminal located 22 km offshore; two underwater pipelines connecting the onshore tank battery and the FOIROT and other production facilities.
The oil cargo is transported by 20,000 dwt shuttle tankers to the Belokamenka floating oil terminal in Murmansk for further transshipment onto large-tonnage tankers. The oil exported from Varandey is shipped through the Barents Sea and along the Norwegian coast to Western Europe, the U.S. or Canada.
