Shortly after being appointed to the post as acting Governor of Murmansk Oblast, Dmitriyenko said that development of the Murmansk transport hub was one of his main concerns, BarentsObserver then reported. This week he met with Minister of Transport Igor Levitin to discuss some of the most important issues in this field, a press release form the regional government reads.
The main question to be raised in the meeting was the construction of a new bridge from the Kola Bay towards the Murmansk city centre, which is planned to start this year. The bridge has a 5.2 billion price tag.
Another major infrastructure project for Murmansk is modernization of the Murmansk airport, the main regional airport with more than 400 000 passengers per year. The rebuilding will start up this summer and cost 2.4 billion RUB.
The Murmansk regional authorities are interested in transferring several roads from regional to federal ownership. Amongst these is the road to Teriberka, the small fishing village that is planned to become the hub for Shtokman field operations. Other roads to be made federal are the road from Kola to the border crossing point Lotta on the Russian-Finnish border and the road from Kandalaksha through Alakurtti to the border crossing point Salla, also on the Russian-Finnish border.
